Self-care for the Self-aware = Part 2 (Emotion & Energy Balancing)
* UPDATE * Empath & Amethyst is now Xo Tiffany Celeste
And we’re back for another addition of Self-care for the Self-aware Part 2 –Emotion & Energy Balancing.
In part one we discussed why it’s important for empaths to implement a routine self-care practice and today we will dive into the how.
As you know, empaths intuitively know what others are feeling and thinking and we often times can walk into any environment and pickup on the energy in the room without anyone saying a word and before you know it you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious or drained without even knowing what just happened to you.
This is why self-awareness is key to distinguish between what are your real feelings and what you may have picked up from someone else. Emotions can be contagious, you can potentially “catch” fear, anger, or joy from people without realizing it. Absorbing other people’s emotions can trigger panic attacks, depression, food, sex and drug binges, and other physical symptoms.
What are emotions anyway and as an empath how can I stop the emotional overwhelm?
Well, emotions are a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. We are human beings and we were created to feel emotions. So never feel like you are flawed or that something is wrong with you. If you experience low vibe emotions that are a little bit more persistent than others that's okay that just means you may need to learn how to work with them to create new emotional patterns.
You can create new emotional patterns with this simple but powerful 7 step process.
Identifying the emotion that you wish to change or release. —What is the word that captures what i’m feeling?
Identify your triggers. —What or who is causing this emotional response?
Deal with the triggers. —Is there a boundary you need to set with your self or someone else? Do you need to release a toxic relationship? Do you need to find a different job?
Determine how you would like to feel. —What lights you up? What environments do you thrive in? How can you add more of that into your self-care practice?
Create a plan. —How can you be prepared if a situation arises where you feel emotionally triggered. The key here is to map this out before that trigger has a chance to kick in.
Get support. —Get into a community of like minded women who understand and support you. Consider getting professional help and KNOW that it’s okay to ASK for HELP!!!
Be persistent and patient with your self. —Realize that it will take time for new emotional patterns to kick in. Don’t beat yourself up if you have a meltdown. Take it one day at a time and remember to give yourself that same grace, compassion and kindness that you so freely give to others.
My final thoughts as a fellow empath is that we are not responsible for transmuting others peoples energy or trauma. There is nothing wrong with holding space for people to heal and grow but you don’t have to do the work for them. Your only responsible for healing yourself, and radiating the loving light within you and being an example to others. Peace and Blessings my love and may you continue to thrive!
